First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a CommunistThen they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a SocialistThen they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionistThen they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a JewThen they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
“First they came …” is the poetic form of a post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals and certain clergy—including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself—following the Nazis’ rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group.
We can’t be silent any more. We can’t let history repeat itself. Let’s have our voice heard for the greater goods of human society. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
We can’t fail to notice the similar patterns of holocaust and the current hate crimes again AAPI. Both are led or encouraged by a narcissist leader who created a common enemy for their own idolization. Both are targeted for one specific race using the egotistic agenda that one race is better than the other. After WWI, the German defeat was hard to swallow for many Germans. Jews became the scapegoats for the lost war. Hitler uses antisemitism as a political strategy. Same scenario for today, the former leader of the whole country is using one race as a scapegoat for his failures in the office and use anti-Asian as a commonality and as a political strategy to build his cult and following.
We all need to be awakened and speak up for the awareness. We can’t follow blatantly for someone else’s ego. Plz ask this question before you take actions: Am I doing the right thing? What are my life principles? Do I believe in humanity? Doo I believe in kindness? Do I believe in love? Do I believe in freedom? If you answer yes to any of the questions, you need speak up to reach 1 or 2 souls in your life to eliminate fear of difference and scarcity.
Remember: It’s always right to do the right thing. The time is NOW. If not now, when; If not me, who?
I have to ask you:
Do you believe that we live in an abundant world? Do you believe in abundance? What does abundance mean to you?
Here is a fair definition:
Abundance mentality says that there is enough for everyone, so someone else’s gain is not your loss. This is the opposite of scarcity mentality which says that there is only a fixed amount of reward so someone else’s gain is your loss. By having abundance mentality, you won’t feel envy when someone else succeeds. You know that you can have your own success.
When we have an abundance mindset, we embrace the world as an interconnected oness. We are not afraid of competition and not scared of sharing resources. We strive for the greater goodness and we thrive with altruism. Altruism is one of the two building blocks of human nature with the other one as reciprocity. Racism is the direct opposite of abundance mindset. Racism act from a space of scarcity and fear. Racism does not accept and respect the diversity and differences that multi-races bring. We come to this world with nothing and we leave the world with nothing. What you do in between defines who you are. How do you want to write your life story? As open-minded or narrow minded? As kind or mean? As kind to one race or as kind to all races? As love or as hate? As love to one race to as love to all races.
I challenge you to do 1 act of kindness towards Asian for 7 days and forward this post to three people to challenge them to do the same.
